The Swedish Society for the Study of Russia, Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia is a forum for the exchange of information and ideas. The society is politically independent. Members come from a number of different fields while they have in common a professional concern with Russia, Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia. There are for example specialists from the areas of political science, sociology, economics, geography, history and philology, but also translators, diplomats, journalists and teachers.
The aim of the Society, founded in 1997, is to further knowledge about Russia, Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The Society arranges amongst other things lectures and conferences. Members contribute articles, e g through the online publication Östbulletinen, and also have access to member exchange services.
The Swedish Society is a member of the International Council for Central and East European Studies (ICCEES) and fosters networking and exchange with likeminded peers in Sweden and internationally.
